Dental Hygienists

Beth started her career in dentistry as a dental assistant. With a thirst for knowledge in the field, she decided to pursue a career in dental hygiene and earned her degree at NOVA. Beth has worked with Dr. Janowitz for over 26 years, and believes that says a lot about the atmosphere he has created. “The office is an extended family. There is a lot of warmth here,” she notes.

The relationships she has developed over the years with her patients are critical to her, she says. “The appointments with my patients are like lunch dates without the eating part.”

She has great compassion for animals, particularly horses and dogs – she resides with her two labs, Sydney and Lexi. Beth loves to cook, bake and share recipes. Her daughter is a veterinarian, and her son works for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

MaryAnn earned her degree in dental hygiene from Temple University, a Bachelor of Science degree from George Washington University, and a Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She has worked for over 35 years as a dental hygienist in general dentistry and periodontal practices, and has worked one day a week for Dr. Janowitz for over 15 years.

MaryAnn has been a faculty member since 2003 in the Division of Dental Hygiene, University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore, where she teaches Periodontics and Advanced Clinical Practice. MaryAnn says, “Although I teach fulltime, I maintain my clinical practice with Dr. Janowitz because I enjoy the camaraderie of the office.”

An active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, MaryAnn currently serves as president of the Montgomery County component. She volunteers her time, along with her students, at the Ronald McDonald House in Baltimore.

Married since 1982, MaryAnn and her husband have two sons, Lee and Max. She loves puttering in her garden and relaxing on her porch while watching her fishpond.

Paula worked for 15 years in Baltimore after graduating from Temple University with a degree in dental hygiene. Her husband, who is a patient of Dr. Janowitz, found Paula her job when he mentioned to Dr. Janowitz that he was marrying a dental hygienist. She has worked with Dr. Janowitz for over 10 years.

Paula is a self-proclaimed fitness junkie who practices yoga and values serenity and calm in her life. She brings these skills to Dr. Janowitz’s office. Paula and her husband have eight adult children, and her patients and her co-workers are like an extension of her own large family. “Everyone here is friendly and warm,” she says, “and our patients keep coming back. That says a lot about our family atmosphere.”

Recently, Paula completed her yoga teacher training and hopes to soon teach in the area. As an avid reader, she combines her passion for fitness with reading on the elliptical machine. Paula also likes to knit, and she and her husband enjoy traveling.

“If someone is afraid to be here, I understand and I listen,” says Sandy. She once disliked going to the dentist, and it is that memory that gives her great compassion for her patients. Sandy views service to others as her highest priority. “I get great satisfaction helping our patients, and great satisfaction from those whose dental health is better after visiting our office,” she says.

Sandy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Working with Dr. Janowitz as a dental hygienist for many years, Sandy values her ability to make patients feel at home in a dentist’s office. She also enjoys going into the community to teach children about good dental practices.

Sandy is married and has two adult children and a dog. She enjoys the beach and spending time with family and friends.

For over 15 years, Saudia has worked as a dental hygienist with Dr. Janowitz. The favorite part of her work is patient education. “Informed, educated patients are the key,” Saudia says. Helping her patients learn more about their oral health is one way she can make a difference in their overall health, and that is important to her.

In her free time, Saudia loves being with her husband and their two children. As a family, they enjoy trying new vacation places and experiences.

Helen is close to her parents and siblings, and has her own big family – she and her husband have four boys and two girls ranging in age from a baby to an 18-year-old. This fuels her desire to make her patients feel like part of the family, and she believes she does that with Dr. Janowitz.

“We are like a family here, and we love taking care of our patients’ families,” Helen says. “It is definitely a home away from home for those who work here and those who are patients here. If our patient has a baby, it is like we had a baby.”

Helen grew up in Rockville, and still lives in the community. She has worked for over 10 years with Dr. Janowitz.

Rachel has worked with Dr. Janowitz for over 10 years – first at the front desk and now as an assistant – but she began seeing him as a patient when she was 16 years old. It was then that she realized he is an exceptional dentist with an exceptional dental practice. Now she is part of it. “I have come full circle with Dr. Janowitz,” she says. “Not only was I a patient and now I work here, but my family – my parents, my siblings and other relatives – are all patients, too. We are just one of many stories that shows the family we have created here.” A native of Bethesda, Rachel is married with one daughter. She and her family enjoy traveling, especially internationally.
